Säntis valley station and Hotel Schwägalp

The new "Säntis - The Hotel" and the neighbouring valley station are an ideal example of how timelessly and naturally stainless steel roofs and facades can blend into their surroundings and be combined with other materials. In addition, particular attention was paid to the use of regional and sustainable building materials during construction.

The roof of the Säntis Hotel

The roof of the Säntis Hotel is characterised by a special architecture with two diagonally running ridges and represents a kind of delta sail. Thanks to the expansion strips, the double standing seam roof made of PEARL does not appear oppressive and harmonises perfectly with the special exposed concrete, which contains shredded Schwägalp stone from the excavation.

The valley station

As part of the new construction of the hotel, the cladding of the valley station was also renovated, as it had suffered greatly over the years from the extreme weather conditions. A material was deliberately chosen for the new cladding that would survive the coming decades undamaged. The angled and double standing seam sheets made of ROOFINOX PEARL give the railway a new look and protect it. This is also confirmed by ROOFINOX's 60-year material warranty.

Further information on the stainless steel facade and roof will follow soon in the corresponding case study. Until then, you can find more information on the architecture and building materials in the 04/2020 issue of the trade magazine "modern bauen". Among other things, the report describes detailed solutions for the connections and terminations on the roof, the inserted gutters and the window surrounds.
